Literacy Mentor Monday: Brandon

Every Monday, we'll be sitting down with one of the Literacy Mentors from an I Would Rather Be Reading learning hub to learn more about the work they do and their experiences working with students. Today, we'll share our conversation with Brandon who is a tutor at our Shively learning hub.

Tell us who you are and what your role is here!

"My name is Brandon and I'm a NTI motivator at I Would Rather Be Reading. My number one function is to make sure that the kids do not lose any progression from an educational standpoint during these strange time of COVID."

What is one memory you have working with a student at this learning hub?

"One memorable moment I've had as a NTI motivator was working closely with one of the students here and getting to see her progression and how she has been able to become more independent with her work."

What do you most look forward to at work?

"What I look forward to everyday is coming here and trying to make a difference, seeing the kids and making sure they're improving and learning every single day."

Why is the learning hub important to our students?

"The learning hub is important to our students because it allows them to continue to progress. These are strange times because of COVID and we want to make sure that they stay on level and that they have the opportunity to improve and succeed."

We also got the chance to talk to a student about working with Brandon, and he told us "I like working with Mr. Brandon because when he helps us learn we get smarter and smarter." Thank you, Brandon!
