Every Monday, we highlight one of our Literacy Mentors from an I Would Rather Be Reading learning hub to learn more about the work they do and their experiences working with our students. Today, we'll share our conversation with Yozette who is a tutor at our Park Hill learning hub.
Tell us who you are and what your role is here!
"My name is Yozette and I am a learning hub tutor. Currently my role here is to tutor students anywhere from kindergarten to high school level."
What is one memory you have working with a student at this learning hub?
"One of my most memorable moments was with one of my students who is in the third grade and was starting to learn his multiplication tables. I was working on the white board with him, drawing out the problem, and it finally clicked for him. He got his answers correct and he now understands how to complete multiplication tables."
What do you most look forward to at work?
"When I walk through the door, I look forward to seeing all the kids. I love children, and knowing that they're here to learn and that I'm able to help them is the most important thing to me. That's what I love about being here."
Why is the learning hub important to our students?
"We tell our students and their families' how important it is to come to the learning hub every day. The majority of our students were far behind in their schoolwork. It's important for us to make sure that they're here, that they're learning, and that they understand what their achievements can be if they're here every day to learn from us."
Thank you, Yozette!
